HEALTHY INTERIORS  - BREATHING CLEAN AIR

The less toxic materials that are used in constructing a building, the better air quality we will  enjoy. Your house shouldn't make you sick.

This is how we are minimising chemical build-up in the home:

Building envelope

The timber used in the building frame is untreated, that means free of chemical treatment. The roof trusses are also untreated, except for the top cords which are made of treated (losp) LVLs. The exterior  cladding is James Hardie  cement fibre panels.

Insulation

The high density natural wood-fibre boards on the building envelope free of VOC's and neurotoxins, as are the flexible wood fibre insulation batts used in the framing and partition cavities. See Documentation for further information.

Paints & Finishes

All internal walls & ceilings will be primed and painted with vapour permeable paints and with very low VOCs. All wood surfaces will be primed with water based finishes or with natural oils.

Caulking, Adhesives

Expansion foams

Low VOC silicon & adhesives were used sparingly. No gap filling foams were used within the living areas of the building.

Termite protection

Our anti-termite plan guarantees no toxic fumes whilst still protecting your home.  See Features & Building Specs for further details.

Ventilation

The layout of the building is designed to take advantage of the natural air flow of the local geography. All the windows and doors are tilt and turn, and open fully to allow cross ventilation throughout the home

Low voc cabinetry

E0 plywood and mdf has been sourced from Polytec for the cabinetry in the kitchen and internal fit-outs.

Flooring

We have chosen to install, Hydrocork, a cork based vinyl floor from Wicander.  This flooring has good insulating properties because of its' cork base.  It has a low voc rating for the vinyl surface.  It is water and slip resistant. See the Technical Data Sheet in Documentation
